Welcome to Little Monks' Laboratory

The first program that I wrote as a young kid was in the programming language C. It was a simple program that displayed the words “Hi, from Divya”. Typing out the program on the bright blue Turbo C screen and seeing the output gave me a moment of excitement and joy. Even though it happened 20 years ago, the above memory lingers in my brain like it happened only yesterday. The feeling of magic and joy that I experienced, was a major contributor to my interest in Computer Science and Programming. When I was a teenager, Computer Science and Programming were just catching up in India and methods or resources to teach kids this new subject were limited. So, just watching a program compile and execute felt like magic. In today’s information age, I notice that even 2 year olds know how to operate mobile phones and laptops. Kids today, see a lot of technology around them everyday and hence, to just see a program execute on their screen, may no longer excite them. While online materials and classroom coaching can enable kids to learn the subject, unless we also engage kids in “real world”/”out of classroom” methods of learning, kids might never realize the magic behind the subject.
